Barber setting the clippers for a skin fade at ONYX Cuts in Vienna

SKIN FADE VIENNA · ONYX CutsSkin fade in Vienna — the sharpest transition, and what it asks of you

In a skin fade the hair runs out to nothing at the bottom, straight onto the scalp. It is the most striking version of the transition and also the least forgiving: every irregularity in the growth, every scar and every whorl becomes visible, because nothing is left covering it.

Why it takes longer

An ordinary fade gets by with three or four guard lengths. A skin fade adds the step from bare skin to the shortest clipper setting, and that is the hard part: between zero and one millimetre there is no guard you can simply reach for — the gradient comes from how the tool is guided, not from swapping it. That's why we schedule more time for it.

Who it works for — and who it doesn't

It sits well on dense, evenly growing hair and a head without pronounced edges. It gets harder with very fine hair, because the transition has little substance to run through, and with a low or uneven hairline at the nape. If we can see that a skin fade will look restless on you after ten days, we say so — and suggest a low fade or taper that holds three weeks instead of a week and a half.

Aftercare

The shaved zone is skin, not a hairstyle. It reacts to sun like any other uncovered patch and dries out if you treat it with harsh shampoo. A light care product is enough; if it reddens after the cut, cooling helps more than creaming. We'll tell you at the appointment what your case needs and what it doesn't.

Häufige Fragen

Was oft gefragt wird

What does a skin fade cost in Vienna?

From €42, like every haircut here — consultation, wash, styling, product advice and a drink included. The extra time it takes is not charged separately.

How long does a skin fade last?

Ten to fourteen days before the edge softens. That isn't a flaw but a consequence of the length: at zero millimetres, even slight regrowth changes the picture.

Does it hurt?

No. On sensitive skin the shaved zone can be briefly irritated — that usually settles within an hour. Say so beforehand and we work with less pressure and more passes.
