There is no hairdressing test in Austria, no certifying body and no test winner — anyone advertising one has awarded the title to themselves. You can still compare, you just have to do it yourself. Five points are enough, and all five can be checked before the first appointment.
1. How long an appointment lasts
Visible in the booking system. Twenty minutes is enough for a clipper cut, not for consultation, wash, line-ups and styling. A shop scheduling 45 minutes can deliver them — whether it does is shown by the first appointment. Here it's 45 for the haircut and around 60 for hair and beard.
2. What's missing from the price list
Not what's on it, but what stands beside it. If washing, drying, line-ups or the neck shave appear as their own lines, they aren't in the cut. Add them up and only then compare. A €32 base plus four items quickly passes €45.
3. Reviews: volume before score
Below fifty reviews a score says little. From a few hundred it becomes load-bearing, because the bad days count too. Read five in full instead of counting a thousand. Ours: 5.0 out of over 1,000 on Treatwell, 174 on Google.
4. Tools and technique
Are the line-ups drawn with a straight razor or milled with clippers? Is there a scissor cut for longer hair or only machine work? Is the beard worked with a blade? Those are questions you can ask on the phone, and the answer comes immediately or not at all.
5. Whether anyone contradicts you
The last and best point. A shop that nods at every request is selling. One that says a skin fade will go restless after ten days over a low whorl is working. You notice that difference in the first five minutes of the first appointment — and after that you know whether you're coming back.
