We're not open on Sundays, and the reason has nothing to do with convenience: Austria's Arbeitsruhegesetz prohibits employing staff on Sundays and public holidays, and hairdressers have none of the exemptions that apply to, say, station businesses or tourism. Anyone who finds an open barber in Vienna on a Sunday has usually found a one-person business with no employees.
What really is open on a Sunday in Vienna
Very little. Individual businesses without employees may work themselves, and the airport and major stations have their own rules. What turns up in search results as „open Sundays“ is often an outdated entry in a map service — the trip is only worth it after a phone call.
Saturday is the better answer
We're open Saturday from 9 to 19, the whole day and not just until noon. It's the day most people come — so the good slots go early. If you want Saturday, book a week ahead; if you're flexible, gaps in the late afternoon often remain at short notice.
Or during the week until 19:00
Monday to Friday also until 19:00. An 18:00 appointment after work is far easier to get than Saturday morning, and the salon is quieter. If you come regularly, settle on a fixed weekday and book the next appointment at the chair.
If it really has to be Sunday
Then a Saturday evening appointment is the next best thing — a cut sails through a Sunday without trouble. For weddings and other fixed dates we arrange special times; that runs through a short enquiry rather than the calendar. Asking costs nothing.
